Motorcycle accidents

AIB’s investigation of 41 motorcycle accidents shows that many of the
analysed accidents could have been avoided if the motorcyclist had behaved
differently. Better awareness on the part of the counterpart could also have
prevented a large amount of the accidents. Inappropriate behaviour can be
compensated by appropriate design of the road or vehicles so that the
engineering compensates for the human mistakes. Appropriate road design in
some of the accident locations would have reduced the number and extent of
the several accidents. Moreover, technical improvements to motorcycles would
help the motorcyclists with increased visibility, better braking etc.
